Much of “The Great Gatsby” centers on the idea of isolation versus the notion of relation. We are made to believe that Gatsby is an amazing socialite who has friends wherever he goes. It is true that Gatsby is a socialite, but he lacks many true friends. His house is huge and filled with many fine things, yet he lives alone. He has large and lavish parties, but the people who attend them do not know Gatsby at all. It is also true that Gatsby’s. He is in fact very alone longing for the love of a woman who is already taken.

This picture evokes the idea of urban isolation, an theme which closely parallels the experiences of many of the characters in the story.
